Times are local for Zion (37.20°N, 112.99°W). An object is highest as it crosses the meridian (transit) — the best moment to shoot, and exactly when a German equatorial mount needs its meridian flip. Peak altitude is fixed by declination: 90° − |latitude − dec|.
